Ashley McBryde was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year. And while she was in remission from her surgery, she hasn’t spoken to Dolly Parton in years.

We hear about Ashley getting her phone number from the star in a text sent from the singer, and the revelation about the phone call she had with Dolly Parton this year, when she was in remission.

The 48-year-old, who’s written four books including her memoir and autobiography ‘Ashley, Come Home’, says: “I’m not in touch with Dolly. I had a text message to her. I’ve only ever written to her once, and it was a private matter.

“I saw her in concert a couple of years after the fact of the brain surgery. She has always made me feel at peace.

“I saw her perform ‘All I Wanna Do’ and the whole crowd rose to their feet and stood, just as I had done, when I came into the room and took the microphone.”

The mother-of-three told Us the moment she saw Dolly Parton perform at Houston’s Houston Theatre in June 2003, she knew she’d been accepted into her group, Dolly Parton and the Kaleidoscope Chorus. Later she met her mother.

“And Dolly – I think I’ve said this before – she is a genius. There’s no doubt she’s one of the greats,” she said.

“It wasn’t long after that that she phoned me and said: ‘I want you to come and sing in my band. We can rehearse in your room. And then we’ll go to the theatre.”
