Rep. Chris Collins will not resign as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee

GOP’s Lawler ousts DCCC Chairman Maloney in New York congressional district

I’ve mentioned before the GOP is a party of the rich, but the party of the rich only has to be wealthy enough to not be embarrassed by a poor man with a lot of money. And the GOP is making that argument about not only their new leader, but also the man who was at times their nominee for the presidency.

Rep. Chris Collins, who represented the Southern New York district that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo now holds, has been replaced as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee by Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL).

Calls had been made to Collins to vacate his post as chairman this week, after a series of scandals over campaign donations and a lack of fundraising.

A source close to Collins says he will not resign. “DCCC Chairman Chris Collins is a very effective leader, and I know he will do a terrific job,” he says. “He has earned this position for himself, and I wish him the best on his time in Congress.”

Meanwhile, the DCCC announced today that Rep. Maloney (D-FL) has been appointed to fill Collins’ chair. “The DCCC’s new chairman, Rep. Dan Lipinski, will provide a strong leadership for his member of Congress as DCCC Chairman Dan Lipinski joins the organization. The DCCC looks forward to working with Rep. Maloney, Chairman Dan Lipinski and all leadership team members across the country. With a record fundraising effort, Chairman Lipinski will ensure that Democratic candidates have a robust fundraising effort to fight for the values and good-paying jobs that we all need. Dan Lipinski knows the importance of money and I know Chairman Lipinski will be an effective leader for our party and our candidates.”

Maloney is a member of the New York congressional delegation, representing Staten Island (which, although it is no longer a part of the Empire State, is one I know from having lived in the area.)
