Orange County, Calif. – A man was killed when a van he was driving collided with a delivery truck in Irvine on Sunday evening, local authorities said.
The driver of the delivery van, identified as 33-year-old Jacob R. Smith, was driving eastbound on Interstate 880 when he crossed over into the westbound lane and collided with the van, said Capt. Stephen Boyd with the County Fire Department.
The van that crashed with the Amazon car was a white, four-wheel drive pickup truck with a red and white stripe with a black roof. Police found two people who had been ejected from the van and were transported to a local hospital, where one of them died.
An ambulance transported the driver of the delivery van to a local hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Investigators believe the collision was a hit-and-run accident, Boyd said.
Smith was driving the van on Sunday as he returned home after work, according to police.
He was a California resident. His name has not yet been released.
