Summary
A tentative deal between UC President Mark Yudof and UC President-elect Janet Napolitano to reform the UC system was reached late Monday night in San Francisco.
UC’s chancellor, Janet Napolitano, announced her plans in mid-October to reorganize the University of California system with campuses in California, Hawaii, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.
Napolitano has been negotiating with University of California President Mark Yudof about reorganizing the University of California, which would bring in more money and lower tuition at public universities.
The University of California is negotiating an agreement with Napolitano for reorganization plan and for a four-year contract extending beyond the end of Yudof’s second term in January 2014. The University of California has been in talks in recent months about a reorganization plan. The talks were delayed with UC students threatening walkouts and with California’s government and with Napolitano.
The tentative deal includes an extension of an agreement that Napolitano said last month would run from 2013 until the end of her presidential term in January 2014. Some students and faculty groups have said they will walk out of Yudof’s public University of California if the plan is not approved.
Student groups at UC Berkeley have also threatened to not renew their four-year tuition-free community service contracts with the university. There has not been an official vote on the plan, but
