Soccer star Paul Pogba’s brother arrested in connection with alleged extortion attempt
A former sports agent was arrested in connection with an alleged extortion attempt last year, a news report has claimed.
Former agent Christopher Cozza was reportedly arrested after an alleged extortion attempt last year in which a £100,000 ($145,800) payment was made to a player.
The news was made public after a report by U.K. tabloid News of the World newspaper, following a story in its Metro section last month.
Cozza, who played for Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur before retiring, was previously suspended by Manchester City, the report said.
A club statement said the former agent had “been in discussions with the Metropolitan Police over alleged criminal behavior.”
Cozza’s arrest came at The Manchester Evening News’ request for its story out of concern after the case had received no publicity.
According to the Metro report, a player from Manchester City, whose contract was due to expire at the end of the season, is alleged to have been offered a bribe by Cozza in return for leaving the Blues.
The player, an 18-year-old from Greater Manchester, rejected the bribe and the alleged extortion plot, the report said, citing court documents.
